To Introduce myself, I am a blend of Microbiology and Biochemistry with a Ph.D in Faculty of Biomedical Sciences in the Field of Molecular Virology and Cell Biology from the famous King Institute of Preventive Medicine, (One of India’s oldest premier Vaccine Manufacturing Institute) under directorate of Medical Education and TN. Dr. MGR Medical University. Practically till today I enjoy doing and guiding young bloods in wet lab protocols. I am trained to handle Class 3 pathogens like viruses apart from regular cell lines, primary cells including stem/progenitor cells from umbilical cord/blood, bone marrow, dental pulp, menstrual blood, placenta and liposuction material. I am trained to work in negative pressure labs of class 100. To add, I have hands-on experience in Flow Cytometry, confocal microscopy, metabolic analyzer and real time PCR which could be evidenced from my list of publications. I have worked with small lab animals including transgenic mice and rats. Currently, my lab is investigating stem cells/virus interactions. Viruses which are known to cross the placental barrier and their interaction with resident mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs). Susceptibility of MSCs to viral infections are debatable. There are viruses which have been shown to infect MSCs as well as MSCs resisting the viral infection by secreting “secretomes”. We have identified a few novel peptides and secretomes, known to modulate local immunological cells to be recruited in antiviral defense. Our lab further works on viral cell tropism exhibited towards MSCs from various anatomical niches on its activation and modulatory functions apart from its regenerative properties.
